I am an economist at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, where I hold the Robert Brookings Smith Distinguished Professorship of Entrepreneurship. From 2008-17 I was the chair of the Economics Area at Olin. I also have a secondary faculty appointment in the Wash U Bursky School of Public Health.

I live in St. Louis and my hobbies include fencing (actually, watching my kids compete in foil and epee!), reptiles, NFL (still a Rams fan!), MLB, and the NHL. I am originally from Santa Barbara, California.
